DORIS MILLER CONE's Obituary
Doris (Dee) Miller Cone passed away Tuesday, November 29, in Hollywood, Florida.
Dee was the daughter of Katherine and Mike Miller (both deceased) and a graduate of Miami Sr High School, and later earned advanced degrees at the University of Miami and Florida Atlantic University.
A pioneer broadcaster, she worked as a DJ at several local stations, most notably
at WMIE-AM where as “Twink” she hosted the late-night program “Music to Midnight,” broadcasting nightly from a glass-enclosed booth in front of the Great Gables restaurant in Coral Gables. She also hosted an afternoon childrens’ television show and later worked with (Skipper) Chuck Zinc, host of the weekday television show “Popeye Playhouse”.
However, her greatest career interest was teaching, from the Montessori method including more than two decades of running A&A Academy South in Dade County to teaching English at the college level in Broward County. She was the beloved teacher of hundreds of children and young adult students.
She is survived by her three daughters: Sherry Lee Alexander of New Orleans, Victoria Alexander of California and Jan Johannesburg (Jim Hannah) of Hollywood; five grandchildren (Christopher, Alexandra, Lon, Kimberly, and Lindsey) and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service 11:30 AM Friday at Miami Memorial Mausoleum.
The family appreciates your expressions of sympathy and asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in Dee’s name be made to the charity of your choice.
