Don H. Long's Obituary
LONG DON H. (87) went home to be with the Lord on Jan 14, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Born in North English, Iowa to Hurley and Amber Long. Grew up on the family farm. Fascinated with mail planes flying over the farm, this led him to enlist in the Army Air Forces in WWII. Retired from the Air Force Reserves in 1984 as a Lt. Col. Married his wartime sweetheart, Vi Nagy. Completed his college education at the University of Miami. His passion for flying led him to a 33 year career as a pilot for Delta Air Lines, retiring as a captain. Also was an active real estate broker. Don was widowed after 44 years of marriage to Vi. Don happily remarried in 1992 to Rosalba (Nena) Otero. They enjoyed traveling the world together and dancing at the Coral Gables Country Club and Army/Navy Club. Don's greatest passion was for his Lord, Jesus Christ. He was active in many facets of Granada Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon and elder. He is survived by his loving wife, Nena, his sister, Elaine (John) Goetz, his son, Randy (Claire), and daughter, Karen (Kim) Autrey; 5 grandchildren; 3 brothers-in-law and 3 sister-in-law. We will carry him in our hearts always. Graveside services with military honors will be Monday Jan 16 at 1pm at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South Cemetery 11600 SW 112th St. Don's celebration of life will be held at Granada Presbyterian Church on Monday Jan 16 at 3pm, reception following at the Church. Family asks that donations be made to Miami Rescue Mission.
