DIOSDADO ROSARIO JIMENEZ's Obituary
Diosdado Rosario Jimenez, 92, of Miami, FL passed peacefully on December 18, 2017 with his loving wife and family by his side. Diosdado was born in Sagua La Grande, Las Villas, Cuba on November 8, 1925. He was a professional with multiple careers and degrees accomplished in his lifetime. While he held degrees in Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce, Customs Broker, and Professor, his passion was in the field of Education. In 1948, Diosdado met Carmen Betancourt Galban in their hometown, Sagua La Grande. After a 6 year courtship Diosdado married Carmen in 1954. They relocated to Havana, Cuba to pursue his lifelong dream of opening a school. He became a Professor at the University of Havana, and later reached his goal of opening a school called, La Escuela de la Camara de Comercio, in Havana. In 1965, the Cuban Department of Education discharged him from his position at the University, because of his opposition to the communist regime. He proudly accepted his termination, and was faced with the challenge of providing for his family. Little did he know that what was his long time hobby would then become one of his primary sources of income. From that point on magic became an integral part of his life and career. He sought every opportunity to promote and contribute to education through his magic. In 1967, Diosdado and Carmen along with their 2 daughters, Raisa and Sonia, bravely left their family, their home, their possessions in search of freedom and a better future. Arriving in Miami penniless, Diosdado ran into a previous student who helped him and his family begin to build their new life in America. Continuing on the path of education, Diosdado retained his first employment at Lindsey Hopkins as an Audiovisual Technician. An opportunity later presented itself to launch the first Spanish, locally produced family television show, El Show de Mister Mystic. It aired for 8 years on what was then WAJA, Channel 23, today known as WLTV Univision 23. It later aired for 4 years on WKID TV 51, today known as Telemundo 51. His television show was focused on brining a healthy variety of cultural educational entertainment to children of all ages in Spanish. An advertisement described the television show as, “Mr. Mystic The Magician, in the wonderful company of his skillful wife and his multitalented daughters presents one of the most complete, colorful, and finest Spanish programs ever seen and produced in Miami.” In 1970, Diosdado and Carmen welcomed their 3rd daughter, Barbara Del Carmen, who completed their beautiful family. Barbara, or as we call her Barbie, later became the youngest star in the Mister Mystic Show. Years later, the Mister Mystic Show relaunched for a short season during the spring of 1988. Later in his life, Diosdado formally retired, but continued to perform at private events including each of his grandchildren’s’ birthday parties. He had a wealth of knowledge and simultaneously pursued multiple hobbies such as photography, lithography, graphic arts and nutrition. He was always disciplined, focused and determined in accomplishing his goals. These traits contributed to his healthy and long life through the age of 92. He will be greatly missed by the family and is survived by his loving wife, Carmen Jimenez, 83, his eldest daughter, Raisa Jimenez, his middle daughter Sonia Lopez and spouse Ulises Lopez, his youngest daughter, Barbie Findo and spouse Charles Findo and his almost adopted daughter Jacqueline Roucau. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Bianca Grazziela and spouse Albert, Andrea Domenica, Ulysses Eduardo, Yvette and spouse Leo, Anais Lucia and Gustavo Alejandro. He was fortunate to also enjoy 4 great grandchildren, Zachary, Lucas, Ulysses Anthony and Elle. Diosdado Rosario Jimenez will forever live in our hearts.
