Dimitri Emile El Nems' Obituary
Dear Friends,
I want to thank you all for your kind words, wishes and condolences. I also would like to thank you for your understanding and patience. I am terribly sorry for not returning your calls. The past few days have been quiet taxing.
I promise that I will call each of one you very soon.
Our dad was 73, loved life and always asked about most of you. He had a big heart and cherished his Joie de vivre. He lived his life his way and decided to die on his own terms. Funny, one of his favorite songs was I Did it My Way by Frank Sinatra. His cause of death was Parkinson. For some who do not know, he was diagnosed, few years ago with Parkinson and refused to submit to it. He refused to take his medicine and did not care about the consequences. All he wanted to do is charming women, drink whiskey, eat fish and dance.
Lately, his condition deteriorated and required him to stay in a nursing home. He hated it. After few years in NYC, we decided it was better for him to be in Miami. We thought the sun, the scenery and being surrounded by additional family members will make it easier on him. He was mobile, still independent to a degree where he can still move around, mentally sharp (most of the time), and still at times difficult to deal with.
Unfortunately, once in Miami, I think he decided that he did not want to live anymore with an illness that is slowly taking over him and literally began to decline treatment by either spitting his medicine out or refusing to eat. He lost his appetite (which is typical with patients in advance stages of Parkinson) and soon slowly started his medical decline. With no pain and no appetite, he slowly slipped away and began sleeping all the time. Three weeks later he was dead. Our father died on Sunday May 5th at 1:24pm.
Thank you again for all your friendships. we look forward to speaking with you very soon.
