Desmond Woo-Sam's Obituary
Desmond Norman Harvey Woo-Sam, 94, of Miami, Florida, USA, died August 26th,
2024.
He was born in Rose Hall Village, British Guiana, on 06/06/1930. Desmond graduated from
Hartford Technical Institute-Hertfordshire -England and earned a Radio and
Telecommunication Engineering Degree. He was married to Marjorie Patricia Wong.
He worked in communications, then advanced medical radiology engineering as a Philips
of Holland delegate for the majority of the Caribbean islands. In 1968, he immigrated to
Trinidad & Tobago and then finally to the United States, where he became a very successful
entrepreneur in the import /export business in the 80’. Finally, he retired in the mid-2000s to
play golf and pursue his hobbies. He was a giant among men at the art of making deals
and, through hard work, made himself and others around him very financially
successful. Known as “Poppy” to family and friends, he will be remembered as a symbol of

He was survived by Marjorie Woo-Sam, Phillip Woo-Sam, Susan Howell, Sophie Howell, Alex Howell, &
Colin Howell.
