Derek Wilchcombe, beloved son, brother, and friend, was born on the beautiful island of West End, Grand Bahamas, on April 18th, 1956, to Peter DeGregory and Yvonne Elizabeth Wilchcombe. He was reared and raised by his father, Charlie Scott. Despite facing challenges due to a childhood disability, Derek’s life was filled with love, joy, and resilience. He spent much of his life under the compassionate care of the Sunrise Medical Facility, where he thrived in a nurturing environment that allowed his vibrant personality and numerous talents to shine.
During his time at Sunrise, Derek was deeply engaged in various activities, including school and workshop programs that nurtured his abilities and enriched his life. He learned to express himself through speech, developed artistic skills in painting, enhanced his social abilities, and, most importantly, mastered counting money – a skill that he took pride in. His warmth and genuine spirit endeared him to everyone he met. Derek was known for his infectious smile, which drew people to him like a magnet. He was compassionate, loving, and even had a playful side, charming many with his flirtatious nature.
On September 23rd, 2024, Derek gained his wings and left this world, ready for his eternal rest even though his family and friends were not yet prepared to say goodbye. He leaves behind a legacy of love and unforgettable memories that will be cherished by many.
