Delfina Rodriguez's Obituary
Delfina Rodriguez, 83 of Miami, Florida, passed away on November 22, 2022 after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Delfy, as she liked to be called, was born in Camagüey, Cuba on September 27, 1939 and spent her childhood and early adulthood in Havana, where she fell in love and married her husband of sixty-four years, Humberto Rodriguez, who survives her today. Like many in her generation, she fled Cuba after the Revolution with Humberto, and their two young daughters, Maria Cristina Mata and Adriana Wojnar, who also survive her today. For the rest of her life, Delfina proudly called the United States her home. As a young mother, she bravely started a new life with her family, first in Brooklyn then finally settling in Miami. There she established a permanent home for her family for generations to come. For the rest of her life, she selflessly dedicated herself to her grandchildren, and loved getting the entire family together for large family vacations. They called her “B” and she instilled in them a sense of pride in their heritage, the importance of family and encouraging their love of the arts. She would always have a lesson or piece of advice ready, and an article clipped from the Miami Herald to support her thesis!
Because of the love and sacrifice that defined her life, she is now survived by grandchildren Danny Fernandez, Cristina Tolle, Ashley Wojnar, Brittany Thomason, Michael Wojnar, Jessica McLane, Fernando Mata, and Nicholas Mata and great-grandchildren Evan Thomason, William McLane, Charles McLane, Isabelle McLane, Fernando Mata Jr, Leo Mata, Emilio Mata, and Elias Mata. She is also survived by her sons-in-law Fernando Mata and Thomas Wojnar; nieces and nephews Maria Fernandez, Jose Fernandez and Christopher Sancerni; and the two people who have loved her the longest, her sister Caridad Bosch and her mother Maria Cristina Bosch.
She will be incredibly missed, and her legacy will always be the mark that her love has left on all our hearts. Querida Delfy, nuestra hermana, madre y abuela. Seguiremos siempre juntos con el amor que nos dejaste, y con el favor de Dios, nos veremos pronto.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to the Liga Contra el Cancer.
