Deanna Sue Allsman's Obituary
On August 24, 2025 at her home, in her sleep, and surrounded by love, Deanna Sue “Dee” Allsman, 82, went to be with her Lord. Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the blessing of her strength, her humor, her faith, and the countless memories that remain.
Born on July 25, 1943 in Kansas City, MO, Deanna was the beloved child of Harold and Violet Toot and the youngest of 4 siblings – Carolyn, Brenda, and Betty Toot. From the very beginning, she brought joy, curiosity, and a spark that never faded. Her childhood was spent with her sisters and friends dancing, reading, and enjoying time with family waterskiing and fishing at the lake.
After graduating Southeast High School, Dee pursued her Education degree with passion. She graduated from Central Methodist University and began her teaching career shortly thereafter. She went on to be a beloved teacher at St Thomas Episcopal School for nearly 40 yrs. Work was never just a job; it was a way of shaping minds and lives, and faithfully empowering her students with self-confidence and knowledge. She made a huge impact in young lives for decades. She taught 5th and 6th grade math, was a supervisor for the acolytes, and lead countless trips to St Augustine and Sea Camp in the Florida Keys. Her St. Thomas kids and colleagues were a second family for Dee.
Dee’s true center, however, was always her own family. She married George Andrew "Andy" Allsman in 1969. They moved to Miami, Florida, shortly after Andy finished in the Navy. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and more than a few inside jokes. Their family was very active in Sunday School and Bible study group at Kendall United Methodist Church in Miami. As Mother to Clark and Andrea, Dee could always be found cheering on Clark from the baseball bleachers or grading papers while Andrea was in dance rehearsal. While teaching and into her retirement, Dee enjoyed walking with at the park, shopping and going to lunch with an amazing group of women. She also became an active member of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization). She bubbled over with love for her granddaughters, Sarah and Elizabeth “Ellie” – having DeeDee nights and always cheering them on in everything they did.
More than accomplishments, it is Dee’s heart we will remember: her big smile, a gentle spirit, a quick wit, and a steady hand in hard times. She taught her family and her students to work hard and love deeply. Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched.
Dee is survived by her son, Clark Allsman; daughter, Andrea McWhirter and her husband, John; Her Granddaughters, Sarah and Elizabeth McWhirter; Nephew Harold and his wife Nanette; niece, Carol and her husband, Bill; niece, Shaun and husband, Craig; niece, Ronda, and husband, Chris. She now joins her Husband Andy and her Sisters, Carolyn Green, Betty Toot, and Brenda Tool Hoge in Heaven with Jesus.
The family also wishes to thank Deanna's dedicated caregivers - Jannett, Grace and Milli for sharing their love, kindness, compassion and support.
A celebration of Dee’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Van Orsdel Funeral Home in Kendall, FL. Friends and family are welcome to come share memories and honor a life so well lived. Service will also be streamed live and can be accessed by clicking here.
