DEAN JAY DE JONG's Obituary
De Jong, Dean, age 66
On October 18, Dean De Jong passed away following a long battle with dementia.
Dean moved to Miami from Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1970 to join the Miami Police Department. He achieved the rank of Major before he retired in 1995. After retirement he taught “Crisis Management” for the US State Department both in the United States and throughout the world. When his wife retired from Westminster Christian School they travelled to many foreign countries. He is preceded in death by his parents Rev. Jerome and LaVonne De Jong. Dean is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janice Jonker De Jong, son Peter, daughter Melissa,( Steve Salony) and grandson Kyler Salony. The family will be receiving friends Saturday, 10/26/2013, at 3:00 p.m. with a celebration of life service at 4:00 p.m. at South Kendall Community Church located at 16550 S.W. 147th Avenue. A reception will follow the service.
