DAYTON RICHARD MEAD, JR's Obituary
D. Richard Mead Jr. 85 of Miami passed away 2/28/2016 lived in Miami all his life. He attended Choate preparatory school, Duke University and Harvard Business School. He was in the Sigma Chi fraternity while attending Duke. He was always a dedicated supporter of Miami and a community leader. He was a past president of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America, Mortgage Bankers of Florida, past president of the YMCA of Greater Miami, on the Board of Director of the Boy Scouts of America, Board of Fairchild Tropical Gardens, Children's Home Society and long time member of Rotary Club of Miami. Dick was also a member of Chief Executive Organization, Citizen Board of the University of Miami, Young President Organization. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Consolidated Papers, Inc of Wisconsin for over twenty-five years. Mr. Mead served on the Board of Visitors of the Fuqua School of Business. He was a trustee of the Mead Family Foundation, the James Deering Trust and the Geiger Foundation servicing the needs of our community. Dick Mead served in the US Army as a paratrooper and was an Emeritus Member of the National Sons of the American Revolution. His career began in the Mortgage industry with D.R. Mead & Company in 1956. After a merger with Lon Worth Crow and Florida Bond, he became CEO of Southeast Mortgage and Senior Vice-president of Southeast Bank. He was on the board of various banks in Florida. Dick Mead often referred to as "Dick-O" is survived by is beautiful and courageous wife of 59 years, Ginger, faithful children Cathy and Budge, and their spouses respectively Kent Hamill and Ali Mead and three gorgeous grandchildren Sophia, Ryan and Katie. Little stood between him and his passion for golf, the Canes, the Dolphins and Blue Devils. He loved his "Miama". Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 4th, 4:00 pm at Plymouth Congregational Church. The family is appreciative of your thoughts and prayers and respectfully requests in lieu of flowers if you are so inclined contribute to YMCA, Camilus House or Fairchild Tropical Gardens. He will be loved and missed for his larger then life personality and generosity.
