David F. Slack's Obituary
SLACK
David Franklin Slack passed away in Miami on June 14th, at age 57.
Survivors include his mother, Judy Jureski, Miami; father, Ted Slack Sr, stepmother Sue Slack,VA; brother Ted Slack Jr; girl friend Gisel Alvarez, Miami; stepsister Junnie Reid, VA: aunt Nancy Maranya, CO; uncle Gordon Slack, LA; cousins Daren Maranya, Damon Maranya, CO; Mary Ellen, Molly and Amanda Schlemmer, David Saunders and Linda Mounts, OH and Robin Hommerbocker, VA. Among David's closest friends are Larry Little, NV; Hector Lopez, Miami; and Sigma Chi brothers. David was a life-long Miamian, born in 1953. He graduated from Christopher Columbus High School (cross country and music) and the University of Miami, AB. He enlisted in the Navy Reserve during the Vietnam war and served as a Seabee for six years. He was employed for 18 years with Brice Southern Co. and also in real estate with his father. In David's younger years, he served as Waterfront, Tennis and Head Counselor at Camp Country Lad in Tennessee. He enjoyed woodworking, art, music, swimming and tennis. He also enjoyed sailing on Biscayne Bay with his father and grandfather. David played the piano and had a strong voice, which he demonstrated at the slightest provocation. He liked animals and volunteered at Miami Humane Society. He also volunteered at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Miami. David had a gregarious way about him and he was liked by everyone whom he knew. He had a sense of humor which attracted people. His life was cut too short. His family and friends will miss him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Humane Society of Greater Miami, 16101 W. Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach FL 33160, or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be registered at www.vanorsdel.com. A memorial service will be held at VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES CHAPEL at 4600 SW 8th Street, Thursday, June 30 at 11 AM. Inurnment will follow at Woodlawn North Cemetery.
