DANIEL PATRICK CONROY's Obituary
Daniel Patrick Conroy, 73, of Coconut Grove, Florida died peacefully on June 24, 2020 surrounded by his loving wife and daughters after suffering a massive stroke.
Dan was born in Troy, New York on July 11, 1946, the younger son of Thomas and Gertrude (Anglum) Conroy. He graduated from Binghamton Central High School and received a Bachelors degree from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in the class of 1968. He married Susan (Susie) Craig on July 5, 1969.
Dan is survived by Susie, his loving wife of 51 years with whom he shared many adventures and celebrations. He will be greatly missed by his daughters and sons-in-law Molly Conroy and Adam Gordon and Keirnan Conroy Klosek and Justin Klosek, as well as his brother Tom Conroy and his family. He also leaves behind his two beloved Labradors Bela and Daisy who he enjoyed walking and doting on daily.
Dan found his greatest pleasure in being “Grumpy” to his six grandchildren: Matthew Klosek, Caitlin Klosek, Lilly Conroy, Henry Klosek, Neil Conroy, and Martha Conroy. As Grumpy, he enjoyed visiting his children in Newton, Massachusetts and Salt Lake City, Utah, hosting grandchildren in Coconut Grove, taking family vacations to Maine, serving as grillmaster for family meals, and celebrating the unique talents and personality of each grandchild.
Dan was an avid reader, movie watcher, and sports fan (Georgetown Hoyas basketball, New York Yankees, New York Giants and any team his sons-in-law or grandchildren wanted to discuss!). In retirement, he volunteered as an election poll monitor in Miami and loved discussing politics and current events.
Before he retired from full-time work in 2008, Dan was a salesperson and executive at major corporations, including IBM, Time Life, and American Express. In addition to being an effective businessperson, Dan developed warm, meaningful, and lifelong friendships with his colleagues, employees, and clients and was invested in mentoring and fostering the careers of others. In addition to the many lasting connections he made through work, Dan readily made friends with classmates, neighbors, fellow beach club members, and his childrens’ friends throughout his life. He could draw anyone into engaging conversation and enliven any gathering with a great story or impromptu toast. Dan loved a party!
A funeral Mass for immediate family will be held at St. Hugh Catholic Church in Coconut Grove, 10 am on Thursday July 2nd, with a live stream option, see below for link. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Grove Outreach Food Pantry at St. Hugh Church in Coconut Grove. Donations can be made online: https://sthughmiami.org/church/grove-outreach/
