Consuelo Tobar's Obituary
Consuelo Tobar, 89, of Miami, Florida passed away on July 23, 2021.
She was born Aug. 25, 1931 in Guatemala City, Guatemala to parents Marciano and Roselia (Lopez) Castaneda.
Consuelo's life was centered on her home and raising her family. She enjoyed traveling, cinema movies, music, dancing, attending concerts and Broadway shows, and meeting people from different cultures. She was a devoted grandmother and helped raise her grandchildren Robert Andrew Hupf, Jr. and Henry Jay Tobar, Jr.
Consuelo believed in the power of education for herself and her children. Education in ALL of its forms. She immediately took ESOL courses after migrating to the U.S. and later culinary and baking courses. She also studied interior designing and fashion design. She constantly self-educated herself by reading ferociously and traveled around the world to learn about other countries and their people. And due to Consuelo's strong belief in education, she encouraged and supported her children and grandchildren in obtaining their advance college education. In a time where there is still: misogyny, racism, homophobia, etc. - Consuelo believed in acceptance, empathy and compassion for ALL people. She was thrilled when she learned the U.S. had elected an African-American President and recently, a female multi-minority Vice-President. Consuelo had a generous and tender heart. She led her life lending a helping hand to the less fortunate.
Consuelo is survived by her sisters: Aracely Gonzalez (Burbank, CA), Floridalma Fuentes (Guatemala), Maria V. Castaneda Hull (San Francisco, CA). This would include her sisters spouses' and their children, Consuelo's 8 nieces & nephews.
Consuelo is survived by her daughter, Vilma Tobar (Miami, FL), her son, Henry Tobar and spouse Suyin Tobar (Pembroke Pines, FL) and her son, Dr. Robert Tobar and spouse Lilliam Torre (Vero Beach, FL).
Consuelo is survived by eight grandchildren: Robert Andrew Hupf, Jr. (New York), Henry Jay Tobar, Jr. (Arizona), Matthew Kyle Tobar (FL), Mark Alexander Tobar (FL), Michael Brandon Tobar (FL), Robert Joseph Tobar (Vero Beach, FL), Christopher John Tobar (GA), and Emily Marie Tobar (Texas).
