CLIVE SHRADER
Clive Shrader, 89, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loved ones on Thursday, May 7th. Clive was born in Chattanooga, TN, August 20, 1925. The Shrader family moved to Miami when Clive was about 3 years old. He attended Citrus Grove and Miami Senior High School.
At Miami Senior High, Clive was an outstanding student and athlete. He participated in football, baseball, basketball and was Captain of the football and baseball teams. He was a member of the 1942 Championship Basketball Team and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in March of 2001. After graduation from high school, he was in training to be an Army Air Corp pilot in World War II until the war was over.
In 1946, Clive attended the University of Miami where he was in the School of Engineering and got his degrees in Civil Engineering & Engineering Science. He was a member of the UM football team and was Captain his Senior year. He was the Chief of Iron Arrow which was the highest men's honorary on campus; a member of ODK; Secretary of the M Club; a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and was named in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. After college he served as President of the U.M. Engineering Alumni Association; President of the UM General Alumni Association; President of the Florida Gold Coast Chapter of AAU (Amateur Athletic Union of U.S); Deacon and Bible Study Class Leader at Granada Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Coral Gables Kiwanis Club.
Clive was in the commercial construction industry for 35 years and the last 22 years was a co-founder and President of Foster-Shrader Incorporated. He retired in 1987.
Clive was a very special person with a gentle soul who was devoted to his family and cherished the times he spent with his family. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was always there to listen to show that he cared. He loved life and people loved him. He will truly be missed by all.
Clive is survived by his loving wife of almost 65 years, Janet Kniskern Shrader; his brother, Barnard Shrader; his two daughters, Dianne Shrader Payne and Kathy Shrader Hutchins; daughter in-law, Valerie Shrader; eight grandsons, Jeremy (Bridget) & Dylan Shrader; Weston (Amy), Ryan, Tyler & Cory Hutchins; Jason & Trevor Payne; three great grandchildren; Asa & Stevie Shrader; & Mason Payne. He is predeceased by his son, Steven Kniskern Shrader; his brothers, John, Terrell, Wallace, Keith, and his sister, Joy; and son in-law, John Robert Payne.
The celebration of Clive’s life will be held at Granada Presbyterian Church, 950 University Drive, Coral Gables, FL, Saturday, May 16th at 3:00 pm. People wishing to make donations in lieu of flowers can make them to a charity of their choice in Clive’s name.
