Clayton E. Linsley's Obituary
Clayton Edward Linsley was born in McKeesport, Pa. November 30,1928, the son of Margaret and William Linsley. He was raised in Hubbard, OH. After graduating from Hubbard High School he served in Japan with the United States Army Air Corp. His love for film made him the perfect choice to do aerial photography and documentation of sites from aircraft, as well as set up and run the theater for the troops.
On September 29th, 1950, he married his college sweetheart, Lois, and soon entered Pittsburgh School of Mortuary Science. Upon graduating he served his apprenticeship in North East, PA. He then moved to Derry, PA, where, working together for 30 years, he and Lois owned and operated Linsley Funeral Home. They have been residents of Miami for the last 29 years. Clayton was a prominent businessman as well as respected co-worker and employee of the Van Orsdel Funeral Homes.
While a highly regarded and beloved business man in the communities he served, he had the joy of playing Santa and Clowning for community festivities as well as the children’s wards in the local hospitals. Clayton’s unique calling began during his high school years and continued until 2007 when health issues took him down another path. He was a man who enjoyed a God-given gift of humor and served his fellowman with dignity and grace. Clayton exemplified Integrity in his chosen profession.
He was a member of Old Cutler Presbyterian Church, an elder in the Presbyterian Church, Commander of the Legion, Ruler of the Latrobe Elks, member of the Shrine and, in his younger years, the Jaycees as well as the Lions. His hobbies included watching sports, collecting stamps and refinishing furniture.
Clayton was preceded in death by their daughter, Dorothy, as well as his two sisters, Edna and Adele. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois, daughter, Sarah (Michael) Melcher, son-in-law, Tom (Dorothy) Patterson, Grandchildren, Leslie (Toby) Dahmen and Robert Patterson, and two great grandsons, Eric and Cole Patterson.
The family will receive friends at The McCabe Funeral Home in Derry, PA., Sunday, Dec. 4th, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM with services 10 AM Monday, Dec. 5th , Rev. Graff presiding. Clayton will be laid to rest next to their daughter, Dorothy, in Unity Cemetery, Latrobe, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association to further vital research or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
