My heart was saddened to read of the death of Chris Gilks. Michael, Carol, Monica and Corey-my deepest sympathy to all of you and your families. I viewed the telecast from Miami and was touched by the path that God had led him to and was inspired by the story. I can still here him proclaiming "someday I will take Tom Brocaws position." I will always remember Christopher as a visionary who always new where his place on this earth was to be and that nothing would keep him from that calling...and it didn't. I went to middle school with Chris. I was the new kid in school having just moved from California to Hagerstown. He was very kind to me and showed me the ropes. We were in chorus together and had many adventures. (He was less than thrilled with beating the drumsticks on the floor - as were we all!!) I wish I had kept in touch with him, but we moved after the 8th grade. I am so very sorry for the tremendous loss. I graduated with Chris and remember his humor and kindness. My heart goes out to his family and friends. The retrospective of his life was wonderful. I only knew Chris for a very short time. We went to Middle School together. We also rode the bus together. We sat next to each other almost everyday. He was my best bud way back then. He always made me smile and laugh so hard I cried. Now I am cryiing for his passing. He was obviously was a big bright star here on Earth, and now a that star rests in the hearts of all that knew and loved him. I regret that my several month long search to reconnect with him didn't yield the results that I was hoping for. I just wanted to tell him that he made an impact on my heart. Chris and I went to high school together and performed together in "Hello Dolly". Though I have not seen him since my graduation in 1984, I remember his bright sense of humor and his zest for life. I'm sure that no one who ever knew knew Chris, even briefly, will ever forget him.

I was a part of the cast of Hello Dolly. Chris and his family worked hard on that production. It was my first high school musical, but I remember how much they all made the experience. It uplifting to know that such a talented person came from Hagerstown. My prayers are with both of his families.
