CHRISTINE E. CALLESIS's Obituary
Christine “Chris” Callesis (nee Economos), passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015 surrounded by family. Beloved wife of the late Anthony, daughter of the late John and Helen (nee Maltezos) Economos, sister of the late Constantine “Gus” (Alice) Economos, Susan (the late Ed) Casey, the late Mary (the late James) Letsos, Helen (Sidney) Draper, and the late Peter (the late Zachra) Economos. She is survived by many devoted nieces and nephews across the country. A long-time resident of Miami, Chris was born in Chicago in 1932 and moved with her husband to Coral Gables in the 1950’s. After retiring from Mayors Jewelers, she dedicated much of her time to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She served as Sunday School Director for many years where her energy and talents brought renewed interest in Orthodox studies to the many children whose lives she touched. She was also a tireless volunteer and fundraiser for many charities including the local chapter of the National Philoptochos Society and Papanicolaou Corps for Cancer Research. Chris loved good food and socializing, enjoyed going to movies and plays with friends, and had a wonderful smile that brightened any room she entered. Always kind, selfless, and loving, she will be greatly missed by family and friends. Visitation will be held at 9am, Saturday, December 19th, at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2401 SW 3rd Ave., Miami, FL 33129 with funeral services immediately following at 10am. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
