CHARLES ROYDEN SCHERER's Obituary
Major Charles “Chuck” Scherer of Miami and Naples, Florida died peacefully on April 28, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Richmond, Virginia on January 5, 1946.
Chuck began his law enforcement career with Homestead Police Department before joining the Coral Gables Police Department in 1968. He enjoyed a special relationship with his two K-9 partners Wolf and Cutty Sark. He had a varied career including leading the security preparations for the Summit of Americas in 1994 and the security team for the Equestrian Venue at the 1996 Centennial Olympics in Atlanta, Ga. Chuck also taught nationwide through the Institute of Police Technology and Management at University of North Florida. He rose to the rank of Major before retiring in 1997. After retiring, Chuck opened an antique store in Cauley Square and later in the South Dixie Antique District.
He was predeceased by his beloved son, Charles Scherer Jr. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pamela, daughter Debby Campbell, grandchildren Caitlin and Michael Campbell, and his German shepherd, Elvis.
Chuck leaves a legacy of helping others through his kindness and generosity and will always have a special place in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
At Chuck’s request, a private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (Tribute Program), PO Box 1000 Dept 142, Memphis ,TN 38101-9908 and Born Free Pet Shelter, PO Box 490823, Key Biscayne, FL 33149
