Cathrine H. Montgomery's Obituary
MONTGOMERY,
Cathrine Hibben passed away Wednesday May 20, 2009 at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community located in Asheville, NC. She had resided at Deerfield for the past five years, having spent many summers in North Carolina, leaving her home in Coral Gables where Cathrine had resided for 63 years. Cathrine was born in Pasadena, CA, November 1, 1918. She graduated from Westridge School for Girls in 1936, subsequently going to the Pasadena Playhouse. While there Cathrine was a part of a theatre group traveling to various cities entertaining. While in Coral Gables during that time, she met and fell in love with John Montgomery, former Mayor of Coral Gables. They married and settled in Coral Gables raising two children John and Severy. Kay (as most called her) became very active in the community serving as President of Coral Gables Elementary PTA, active in her church, St. Philips Episcopal. She was actively involved in the Miami Childrens Theatre, Travelers Aid Board of Miami, Past President of the University of Miami Womens Guild, Regent of DAR, Coral Gables Garden Club, founding member of the Riviera Country Club. After her husband John passed away in 1989, Kay remained active enjoying trips to North Carolina, playing golf and bridge. She leaves behind her son John (Linda), granddaughter Ann, grandson Fletcher (Sarah), great grandsons Michael and Nicholas. Her daughter Severy Gautier (Gary), three grandchildren John Buckley (Courtney), great grandchildren Cathrine, Jack, Bobby and Caroline, a granddaughter Cathrine Sandoval (Julio), great grandson Liam. Grandson 1st Leut. Redmond Bunn Gautier (Martha ) and also a very special friend Kimball Barber. Mom will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, a person full of life and adored and admired by many. She passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus. She is now with our dad, and longed to see her mother who died 2 days after mother was born during the horrific flu epidemic in 1918. She always spoke of wanting to see her mother and being in heaven with her. There will be a private entombment at Woodlawn Park North May 26th followed by a celebration of her life held 11:00 am Tuesday at St. Philips Episcopal Church located on 1142 Coral Way in Coral Gables. Donations may be made to St. Philips in her memory.
