CAROLYN ERVIN JUNKIN's Obituary
Carolyn Ervin Junkin passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 3rd, 2018, having been cheerful, loving, and thankful to the end. She was 98, the same age as her dearly beloved husband John Evans Junkin III (Jack) who predeceased her by two years after their 76 years of marriage. Though Carolyn was born in Bridgeport, CT, on Nov. 8, 1919, her family returned to their life in Miami when she was six months old. As a young woman she began her lifelong involvement of leadership with civic and religious organizations. Carolyn chaired the Coral Gables Library Advisory Board during the library's original design and construction. She also served as President of the Coral Gables Garden Club, and in various capacities with Alpha Chi Omega, PEO, PTA, UM Ring Theatre, Miami Pioneers, and the Historical Association of South Florida. Of the highest importance to both Carolyn and Jack was their involvement with the First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables. For years Carolyn led prayer groups, which so deeply endeared her to many. With all these involvements Carolyn still found time for her daily walking group, her beloved sewing circle, and for writing a book about her husband Jack's grandfather, a Miami pioneer. As a woman of great curiosity, she always wished to learn something new, even attempting to learn Chinese! Carolyn was far more successful with Spanish, reading the Bible in Spanish every morning for over 50 years. As a frequent and joyful hostess, friends and family will miss Carolyn's energy and gaiety, and never forget the sense of community she formed with laughter and the warmth of her smile. Carolyn will be forever remembered by her loving family, son John Evans Junkin IV and his wife Cynthia, granddaughter Stella Romanov and her husband Severin, granddaughter Marjorie Junkin, great-granddaughter Annick Romanov, niece Constance Ervin and her family. A Celebration of Carolyn's Life will be held on Monday, January 15th, 2018, at 11:30 am, at the First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables, 536 Coral Way, Coral Gables, FL 33134, followed by a lunch in the Founder’s Hall. A donation may be made to the church in Carolyn's memory for those who are so inclined.
