CAROL MARIE MILLER's Obituary
Carol Marie Miller of Aventura departed on Wednesday, Oct. 4, after a 92-year life devoted to service, family and music. Her parents, Peter Halverson Johnson and Florence Johnson, were among the early arrivals in the small town called Miami. Carol was born on Dec. 31, 1924, in Jackson Memorial Hospital and baptized 17 months later in Trinity Church, now Trinity Cathedral.
During World War II, she went to a dance and met a handsome sailor, Joseph Miller. They married three weeks later and then endured a long wartime separation, during which Carol was a volunteer for the Red Cross and the USO. She was also an accomplished musician, playing the accordion with local bands. A graduate of Miami Senior High School, Carol worked for half a century as an executive secretary for the Miami-Dade County School Board.
She and Joe enjoyed visiting other countries. They were also avid horticulturalists, especially cultivating orchids, roses and bromeliads. Joe passed away in 1989. Carol's beloved companions were her dogs, especially the shih tzu Missy, who cheered her in her later years.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Florence Miller Paisey, and Florence's life partner, Merwin Sigale.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol's honor may be made to the American Red Cross for the relief of hurricane victims in Puerto Rico, or to the Humane Society's Disaster Relief Fund for animals.
