CAROL SIDNEY HARTLEY's Obituary
Carol Bernard Sidney Hartley, aged 88, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2019. Carol was born July 23, 1930 to Dean Hartley and Bernice Blackmon Hartley and (the thrid of four brothers: Dean, Phillip, Bobby and Michael) in Darlington County, South Carolina. Carol went on to serve his country as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp and saw action during the Korean in Chosin Bay. After his service he attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. While at UM, he met and married Elizabeth Binney Hartley. He was a beloved teacher at Coral Gables Senior High and activist of teacher rights. Carol loved to talk to people, he painted wrote poetry and songs, loved to sing, and had a beautiful voice. He was passionate about justice and equality and was a Humanitarian who had a universal blood type and gave through much of his life. Carol is survived by; sons Forrest Hartley and Stephen Hartley and Daughter Lynne Butts; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Beth and daughter, Bonnie. There will be a Funeral Service held at St. Philips Episcopal Church, 1121 Andalusia Ave. Coral Gables Fl 33134 at 11:00 am on Saturday 2/9. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to St. Philips Episcopal Church.
