CARLOS ANSELMO CELIS QUIROS's Obituary
Carlos A. Celis nació un 27 de Abril de 1946. Mi papá fué el mayor de 16 hermanos. Hijo de Carlos A. (Tito) Celis Sr. y Aida Maria Quirós.
Toto, como todos los llamaban, se educó en el Colegio de la Salle, Colón, República de Panama. Y desde una temprana edad demostró la pasión en los deportes en los cuales se destacó siempre. Estudio Contabilidad en la Universidad de Panamá, fué muy bueno para los números y las ventas.
Cuando vió a mamá por primera vez, él pensó: “con esa flaca me caso!”
El 14 de Septiembre de 1968 unió su vida a Sara Sofía Paredes. Y tuvieron tres hijos:
Carla Sofía, Carlos Manuel y Juan Carlos.
Por cosas de la vida, en 1989 decidió mudarse a Estados Unidos para darle un mejor futuro a su familia. Y por los últimos 30 años vivió en Miami, Florida. Trabajó con el Departamento de Water & Sewer y continuó esa pasión por los deportes, sólo que ahora no solamente eran Panamá Metro o los NY Yankees sus equipos preferidos, ya en la Florida, siguió apoyando a los Miami Dolphins, FL Marlins y a los Miami HEAT fielmente. Pero papá también miraba Golf, Hockey, Tennis, nunca se perdía unas olimpiadas y los Mundiales de fútbol en donde siempre apoyó a Brazil y era un gran conocedor y aficionado de la Hípica mundial. Habían domingos que lo escuchábamos gritar: Gooool.... Touchdown.... Homerun.... “y de Tres puntos!!” Whaatchumean Wade!! “Buena esa Tiger” en el mismo minuto. Y nos preguntábamos: cuántos juegos está mirando papá en la TV al mismo tiempo??!!! Las TV con “pantallas-Múltiples” fueron inventadas para papá.
Mis amigos de la infancia lo recuerdan como un gran hombre y figura paternal, pues mi papá les enseñó a jugar béisbol y basquetbol y por eso no soy la única que dice que fue el mejor papá del mundo! Así también lo dice su primera nieta Patricia Sofía, que para ella fué su Papito y su abuelo. También tuvo un nieto Darian Anthony que compartieron la pasión por películas de acción como Spider-Man y Fast & Furious. Y las más jóvenes de la familia Nicole Alexandra y Lilavati Sofía también lo van a extrañar mucho, especialmente su sonrisa contagiosa y ver las cómicas (cartoons) con él. Así como sus hermanos que lo sobreviven, que a pesar que papá fué el mayor en edad, era el más bajito de tamaño y muy cariñosamente le llaman el Pequeño saltamontes!
Papá fué un hombre humilde que no tenía filtro y le gustaba estar con su familia y amigos. Sabía mantener una amistad sincera y de por vida; en los últimos seis años, que vivió entre Miami y Panamá después que se jubiló, acostumbraba a reunirse con sus amigos de la infancia que también estuvieron pendientes de él durante sus días en el Hospital.
El cariño que mi papá daba a otros se lo regresaban con creces... desde los más jóvenes hasta las mascotas, gente que papá no conocía, para todos por igual, sin importar raza o status social, desde el Presidente hasta el chinito de la tienda eran amigos de mi papá, tenía un imán de atracción impresionante. Pero cuando se ponía bravo o algo le parecía injusto, prepárense, pues el carácter de papá era explosivo en tercera dimensión y bien elocuente y no necesariamente PG-13. Eso lo hacia auténtico y al mismo tiempo gustaban más de él. Papá cerró sus ojos el 11 de Febrero del 2020, tras una larga condición de insuficiencia cardíaca congestiva.
Lo vamos a extrañar infinitamente, algún día lo volveremos abrazar. Hasta Pronto papá.

Carlos A. Celis was born on April 27, 1946. My father was the oldest of 16 siblings. He was born from the union of Carlos A. (Tito) Celis Sr. and Aida Maria Quirós.
Toto, as everyone called him, was educated at La Salle Catholic Elementary School at Colon, Republic of Panama. From an early age he demonstrated the passion in sports, in which he always stood out. He studied Accounting at the University of Panama; he was very good with numbers and direct sales; Dad was the type of person that will sale ice to a Skimo.
When Dad saw Mom for the first time, he thought: "I will marry this slim pretty blonde!" On September 14, 1968 he joined in holy matrimony with Sara Sofía Paredes. They had three children: Carla Sofía, Carlos Manuel and Juan Carlos.
In 1989, Due to life’s unpreventable events, the matrimony decided to move to the United States to give their family a better future; for the past 30 years they lived in Miami, Florida. Toto worked with the Department of Water & Sewer and continued his passion for sports, only now not only were Panama Metro or the NY Yankees his favorite teams; now in Florida, he became a fan of the Miami Dolphins, FL Marlins and the Miami HEAT loyally. Dad also enjoyed watching Golf, Hockey, Tennis. He never missed an Olympics or the Soccer World Cup Series, where he always supported Brazil and he was a great connoisseur and follower of World’s Horse Racing. There were Sundays we heard him shout: Gooool... Touchdown... Homerun..." and Three points!!" Whaatchumean Wade?!! "Good one Tiger" in the same minute; and we wondered: how many games is dad watching on TV at the same time? TVs with “Multiple-screens” were invented for dad.
My childhood friends remember him as a great man and father figure, because my dad taught them how to play baseball and basketball, and that's why I'm not the only one that says he was the Best Dad in the World! As well his first granddaughter, Patricia Sofia, for her was her Daddy, her grandfather and her partner in crime; especially when they went to buy ice cream behind my back. He also had a grandson Darian Anthony who shared a passion for action movies like Spider-Man and Fast & Furious. And finally, the youngest ones of the family, Nicole Alexandra and Lilavati Sofia will also miss him a lot, especially his contagious laughs while they watched the cartoons or Christmas movies every holiday. As well as his surviving brothers*, even though, Dad was the oldest in age, Dad was the smallest in height of all of them, and for that reason, in a very affectionately way they all called him the Little Grasshopper!
Dad was a humble man, who had no filter and liked to spent time with his family and friends. He knew how to maintain a sincere and lifelong friendship. In the last six years, that lived between Miami and Panama after he and mom retired, he was able to meet again with his childhood friends, on quarterly friends reunions, his friends were also very concerned while Dad was hospitalized, during these last two years.
The affection that my dad gave to others was recognized by others with profit... from the youngest ones to the family’s pets, even people that Dad didn’t know him, everyone was treated equally nice by dad. Dad had impressively attraction to others, he was magnetic. But when he got angry or something seemed unfair to him, get ready, because dad's character was explosive in the third dimension and very eloquent and not necessarily PG-13. That made him authentic and at the same time others liked him more.
Dad closed his eyes on February 11, 2020, after a long condition of congestive heart failure. We will miss him infinitely, someday we will embrace him again.
