Carl Virgil Meeks Jr.'s Obituary
Carl Virgil Meeks, Jr., 90, of Miami, Florida, passed into glory on April 10, 2026, into the hands of our Lord.
C.V. was born on August 24, 1935, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, to Carl Virgil Meeks, Sr. and Laura Mae Risley. He was the middle of three children. At the age of seven, he moved with his family to Miami, where he grew up attending Shenandoah Elementary, Shenandoah Junior High, and Miami High School. During his high school years, he enjoyed playing the French horn in the marching band and being a member of the tennis team.
As a teenager, C.V. began working at Western Union delivering telegrams on his scooter. Through hard work and dedication, he spent more than 30 years with the company, eventually serving in management. After retiring in his 50s, he was called back to serve as a consultant, which gave him the opportunity to travel to New York, London, Canada, and other exciting locations.
It was at Western Union that C.V. met Gloria, the love of his life. They were married in 1956 at Shenandoah Presbyterian Church, a place that would remain deeply significant to their family. Together, they built a home filled with love, raising their five daughters and their very special son, Buddy.
C.V.’s faith was the foundation of his life. He faithfully served as both a deacon and elder at Shenandoah Presbyterian Church for many years. After the church closed in 1998, he continued that legacy of service as President of the Shenandoah Corporation, helping support missionaries, Christian schools, and ministries.
He had a special place in his heart for Buddy and for others with special needs. C.V. was a familiar and faithful presence at school field trips and spent over 50 years giving his Saturdays to a bowling league for individuals with special needs at Bird Bowl. His quiet consistency and servant’s heart left a lasting impact on many lives.
C.V. found joy in life’s simple gifts—fishing, coin collecting, and gardening, especially caring for his beautiful orchids. He loved his family deeply and was a steady, godly example to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is now reunited in heaven with his parents, his siblings, and his beloved wife, Gloria.
He is lovingly remembered by his children: Ginger, Cathy, Vicki (Bruce), Gloria (Ed), Laura, and Buddy; along with 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
The family finds comfort in knowing that C.V. is now in the presence of his Savior, whom he loved and served so faithfully. His legacy of quiet faith, steady love, and joyful service will continue to live on in all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held at Granada Presbyterian Church on Friday, April 24, at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing beginning at 10:30 a.m.
