Betty Jean Roberts Vair's Obituary
Betty Jean Roberts Vair (76 years and 8 months of age), daughter
of the late Hal and Dorothy Roberts, went to be with our Lord on
August 5, 2024, at 8:48 p.m. of ovarian cancer. She devoted her life to
serving the Lord and every person who crossed her path, whether
family, friend or stranger. She had a beautiful, selfless, loving and
compassionate spirit that overflowed to all she met.
Betty was born on November 19, 1947, at Coral Gables Hospital,
Coral Gables, Florida. She graduated from Coral Gables Senior High
School in June 1965. She was married to Pastor Rick Vair on August 5,
1966. She studied Greek and Classical Archeology in Ann Arbor,
Michigan at the University of Michigan.
Betty was well loved at Coral Gables Senior High School where she
served on the Senior Student Council. Later, she was a member of the
Coral Gables Junior Women’s Club and served a term as its President.
She also served on the Board of Directors of the faith-based community
and charity organization, Touching Miami With Love, in Overtown,
Miami, Florida and Homestead, Florida. She served Coral Gables
Baptist Church in the women’s ministry, children’s ministry, prayer and
study ministry, and other church activities.
Betty is survived by her husband, Rick Vair, Pastor of Coral Gables
Baptist Church; and her two sons, David Vair and his family; and
Jonathan Vair and his family. Betty also has three surviving siblings,
Dottie Thorpe, Connie Graver, and Hal Roberts, and one deceased
sister, Nancy Pichardo, and their families. David and his wife, Lai Hing,
have two daughters, Eliana and Hannah. Jonathan and his wife, Jan,
have two daughters, Elizabeth and Juliana.

Funeral arrangements are through Van Orsdel Funeral Home. The
memorial and viewing service will be held on August 24, 2024, at Coral
Gables Baptist Church, 5501 Granada Blvd., Coral Gables, Florida 33146.
The memorial service will also be recorded and available virtually on
Google Meet (https://meet.google.com/tgi-gsor-tia; or dial (US) +1
(405) 646-0160, PIN: 611007876#). The time of the viewing will be
10:30 a.m., and the service will be 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The burial
will follow at approximately 12:00 Noon at Memorial Park, 6200 S.W.
77 Avenue, Miami, Florida. Following the burial (at approximately 1:00
p.m.), Coral Gables Baptist Church is offering a reception at the church
for anyone who wants to attend and share what Betty meant to them.
