BETTY JOANIDES's Obituary
Betty Joanides, 96, of Kendall, Florida, passed away on September 22, 2012. Born in New York City in 1916, Betty was the oldest of five children born to Katie and Costas Efantis. She married Mike Joanides in 1935. Their son, Gus, was born in 1937. The family moved to Miami in 1951. She was a long-time member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, where she was actively involved in various charitable events and committees. She also attended services at St. Andrews Greek Orthodox Church. She enjoyed a close relationship with her family and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Mike, and her siblings Tommy, Kathy, and Johnny. She is survived by son Gus, daughter-in-law Corrine, grandchildren Jill and Drew, sister Helen, nieces and nephews Dennis, Jeannie, Patrick, JoNell, Donna, Terry, Peter, Frankie, and Tina Marie, sisters-in-law Beverly and Chickie, and many grand nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held at the Van Orsdel Funeral Home- Kendall on Tuesday 9/25/12 from 6-9 p.m. Services will be held at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church on Wednesday 9/26/12 at 1 p.m. The family requests that a donation be made to Vitas/Hospice in lieu of flowers.
