I was a student of hers when she taught in the gifted program at Avocado in the 1970s. She encouraged me in so many ways. As the only African-American student, at that time, she was my role model. She saw my natural talents and encouraged me to nurture them. Years later I always asked myself, "What would Mrs. Savoy think?" when trying something new. She was, and is, an inspiration.
I was also a student of Ms Savoy's at Avocado Elementary when I was about 10 years old. To this day, she remains one of the most memorable, influential teachers in my life; so much so, that I was searching for her online (now 35 years later) when I discovered this sad announcement. I was a student of Barbara's when she taught in the elementary school gifted program at Avocado Elementary School in the late 1970s/early 1980s, and I remember her as a warm, enthusiastic, encouraging teacher. My heart goes out to her friends and family at this difficult time.

I ask You, The God of all Comfort, please encamp Bill with Your ministering angels.
Please supernaturally strengthen him. Enfold him with Your love and cover his heart.
Please use his church and ministry families to be "the church" to him.
Your hope, strength, and healing is what is sought, and may Your Word accomplish what You send it to do. In Christ's Name I pray, amen.
Thank You, Jesus, that Barbara is whole in body, soul, and spirit - in the presence
of her Creator and Redeemer - and thank You for eternity where we who have
embraced You as Savior and Lord will see her in Heaven in the fullness of Your time.
