Mrs. Parks was my teacher in the 8th grade at Rollingcrest Junior High School in Hyattsville, Md. She was my favorite ever teacher because she valued each and every student in the class despite the fact that we were under achievers. With her influence I became a better student and actually liked going to school.
In the first week of school in September 1962, she asked for a volunteer to wipe the chalk board every day at the end of the school day - which I did all year. Spending the 3-4 minutes with her while using a sponge to clean the board is a memory that stays with me.
I remember she had a very nice smile and came from Florida. She made a difference for a lot of kids in those few years. It is interesting to me reading of how she accomplished so much in her career beyond teaching
By coincidence I attend Miami Jackson High School in 1965. I wish I had looked her up to thank her.
I hope her family reads this message.
