The sign was not visible in your sparkling little eyes...
Your childlike smile, always reaching for the stars.
Alone, hiding the pain in your heart.
I am sure that in your last breath
Jesus arms embrace you and took you home to rest.
Life is your gift O, Lord, help me to be an instrument of your love. ~Amen
In memory of ANA MARIE BARCELO a dear friend.
Anna Marie Barcelo by Victor Martinez
My good and lifelong friend Peter asked me to write a few words about his mom, Anne Marie Barcelo.
To do this, I must take you back to 1973. You see, Pete and I go way back, we attended Ranch together, played music together, were lifeguards together, did triathlons together and even went hunting together. We even attended lectures together at the Museum of Science where we were both asked to leave if we didn’t stop laughing.
Back then, I remember well going to Pete’s house and having long conversations with his dad and always there, was his mom. I remember her beautiful smile, always cordial and extremely proud of her son Pete. In all, my must’ve been a thousand visits to Pete’s, she was always there greeting me with a kiss and smile. Always joyous, never down, she always greeted me with a big smile, full of life and vigor.
Around 1978, my career took me away from Miami and it wasn’t until 40 years later that I returned and re-established contact with my good friend Peter. Anyone who knows me knows that I love to eat so, after 40 years apart we decided to meet at Versalles. I was there early when Pete drove up with his mom, Anne Marie. I can honestly say that after 40 years, Anne Marie never forgot me and greeted me with a big hug, and beautiful smile.
For those of us blessed to have been touched by Anne Marie, she will surely be missed. I say this because people of this caliber, you just don’t see around anymore. I look forward to the day she greets me once again with her beautiful smile.
