Amparo “Puchy” Alas Rigau
90 years old
Miami, Florida
Went to heaven on Wednesday, August 27, 2025
Puchy was born in Marianao, Cuba, on October 30, 1934. She graduated from “La Escuela Del Hogar Ángela Landa” in 1951. She was widowed by Dr. Florencio “Lile” Rigau in 1988 and lived every day longing for the day she would be reunited with the love of her life.
Among her most significant accomplishments were as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had fond memories of her time as a manicurist when she and her family first arrived from Cuba in 1961. Puchy owned a knitting shop in Miami for many years, where she taught women how to crochet, followed by her volunteer work at nursing homes bringing relentless love to those who didn’t have loved ones by their side. She also volunteered her time as HOA President of her community Alhambra Manors as she jokingly referred to it as “El Solar De La Pacheca” for over twenty years.
Puchy was a crafty lady who enjoyed making arts and crafts, painting, and having her nails done. She lived a life of faith and filled her days with church activities, ensuring all communion supplies were always ready for service.
Puchita is survived by her two sons Jorge Rigau and Carlos Manuel Rigau, their wives, Jaqueline Rigau and Mary Luz Rigau, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren Carlos Javier Rigau, Damian Rigau, Sybil Rigau, Lauren Rigau, Odyssea Rigau, Kaspar Rigau, Maylin Rigau, Penelope Rigau-Stewart, and Fiona Rigau-Stewart.
Funeral service will be held at Van Orsdel Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, at 11:30 AM
