Amalia Sarabasa-Garcia's Obituary
Amalia “Molly” Sarabasa, 83, of Miami, FL, passed away peacefully the evening of April 2, 2020. Born on June 14, 1936 in Havana, Cuba, Molly was devoted to her loving family, and led an incredible life as a dedicated teacher and longtime student of linguistics, which took her all around the world. For 38 years, she was a brilliant professor of phonetics and phonology at the Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas, where she received a M.S. degree, in addition to receiving an M.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA and a B.A. from the Colegio Universitario del Sagrado Corazón in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Molly was a lifelong lover of horses, reading, and learning. She loved to travel and spend time with her children, siblings, family, and friends, especially for birthdays, graduations, and other happy celebrations.
She is survived by her siblings, Lourdes Levy and her husband Jose (Miami, FL); Ricardo Sarabasa and his wife Lucy Ferrero (Caracas, Venezuela); her two children, Teresita Stola and her husband David (Shickshinny, PA); and Germán Muñiz and his wife Alicia Castillo (Austin, Texas); her ex-husband, Germán Muñiz Jr.; five grandchildren, Alexander, Tatiana, and Andrew Stola, and Giselle and Michelle Muñiz; in addition to many cousins.
Private services will be held.
