Alice Lucille Parsons Gryder's Obituary
GRYDER, Alice Parsons, was born in Warren, PA on January 6, 1926 to Lucille and Dwight Parsons. The family moved to Florida in 1934. Alice attended Coral Gables Elementary School, Ponce de Leon High School and Stephens College in Columbia Missouri where she majored in Interior Design. Upon graduation she joined her father's firm, Parsons interior, while furthering her artistic skills at the University of Miami. Alice married Charles Edward Gryder, fondly known to all as "Jack". In 1956 Alice and Jack opened Biscayne Fabrics Wholesale Decorative Fabrics, Inc. located in the 40th street design district. There they worked and played for the next forty six years. Eventually Biscayne Fabrics grew into a national firm with showrooms throughout the country. Alice was a charter member of Central Baptist Church in downtown Miami where she was actively involved and graciously and skillfully carried out many responsible tasks contributing to the work of a large congregation. Another great contribution to a special need was her work on her behalf of the Florida Baptist Children's Home in Kendall. Professionally Alice found time to be very active in the National Home Fashions League where she served as President and for many years on the board. She was also a member of Zonta and Sigma Tau. Alice was well and deservedly loved by a multitude of friends and family. Her many friends knew her as a gracious lady who never said an unkind work about anyone and always wore a smile. She was a truly Lady. Services were held. To visit this Guest Book Online, go to www.vanorsdelfuneralchapels.com
