Alexander Harrison Smith's Obituary
Alexander (Alex) was born in Fairfield, Alabama on October 18, 1973. He grew up in Miami, Florida. He loved to be surrounded by the great outdoors. As a child, his time was spent in the Everglades on airboats. As a teenager, he loved to fish in the bay, water ski, ride horses and ATV's and hydro slide. As an adult, his love for fishing continued with his good friends.
At the center of his world was his family, especially his daughter, Isis Delilah. He beamed when he spoke and bragged about her. He was a true “girl Dad”, joyfully attending all her dance performances. He could be easily spotted, always cheering her on and carrying a bouquet of roses for her after every performance. His one last wish was to see Isis graduate from college at the University of Florida. In addition to being a father, he was a loving uncle to his nephew, Logan. He also bragged on his nephew and taught him many life lessons. For the last few years, Alex’s home base was on our mother’ property in Williston, Florida. He helped with building projects and the mother/son bond was one to smile at. Alex’s focus, even in his last days, was to make sure that his daughter and mother were taken care of.
While his last name was Smith and very American looking, Alex was immersed in the Cuban and Panamanian cultures and influences. He had a thirst for knowledge and was brilliant. He was very well read in the areas of history, politics, religion, constitutional rights, amongst numerous other subjects. When he was in a discussion that he had strong opinions on, he would switch over to speaking in Spanglish, and he would get louder in order to be sure that he was heard. Alex worked as commercial electrician over the last 25 years and rose to supervisory positions, although he loved diagnosing problems and “getting his hands dirty.”
Alex will be deeply missed and will forever be in our hearts. Thanks to all who had an impact in Alex’s life; it shaped him into a most loving and humble person. He is survived by daughter Isis, mother Bonnie, sister Samantha , brother-in-law Jeff, nephew Logan, best friends Angie and Moe, aunts, uncles, many cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions for educational and living expenses for his daughter at: https://gofund.me/9b2f31a0
