ALEX MORERA's Obituary
Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Alex Morera, 74, formerly of Santa Clara, Cuba, and long time resident of Miami, Florida, died peacefully at home on Saturday, July 5, 2014.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Begoña Morera; his daughter and son-in-law, María Begoña and John Johnson of Conyers, Georgia; his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel Alejandro and Mary-Alice Morera of Boynton Beach, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Alexander Tuñón of Miami, Florida; grandchildren, Victoria Johnson of Baltimore, Maryland; Christina Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia; and Jonathan Johnson of Dunwoody, Georgia; Anna, Daniel, and Lucas Morera of Boynton Beach, Florida; and Lourdes and Victor Tuñón of Miami, Florida.
Alex was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba and graduated from El Colegio de los Hermanos Maristas. He married his sweetheart, Begoña Aranguren. A growing mistrust of the Communist regime in Cuba led to the decision to come to the United States in search of political and religious freedom.
He eventually settled in Atlanta, Georgia and was able to reunite with his wife, Begoña, and their young daughter, Maria Begoña. Together, Alex and Begoña built a new life in the United States, and soon had a son, Daniel, and later, another daughter, Christina.
In 1978, after years of hard work and sacrifice, they moved the family to Miami.
Alex had a gregarious nature. He liked to have fun, whether it was on the dance floor with Begoña, at the sea shore or open ocean “drowning bait”, or simply sitting around enjoying the company of friends and family. These were always opportunities for an impromptu pachanga to erupt.
He loved the simple pleasures of being present with family and friends.
