Aida M Mizrahy's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Aida Martinez Mizrahy, 88, announces her death. She passed peacefully July 25th, 2023 in Miami, FL where she has lived for 22 years.
Aida was born January 29th, 1935 in Havana, Cuba. She was the daughter of Mario Modesto Martinez and Caridad Galigarcia. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 42 years, Israel Mizrahy. She is survived by her sister, Haydee Hill, her children, Antonio Mario Mizrahy and his wife, Sheila, her daughter Theresa Marie Morrow and her husband, Cyril. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Bryce Antonio Mizrahy, Karli Nicole Mizrahy, and Anna Catherine Keefe.
Aida was a proud graduate of the Merici Academy in Havana, Cuba. This is where she met many of her lifelong friends. She studied languages at the University of Havana and continued to embrace her love of learning about languages, cultures, music, dance, and travel throughout her life and shared these experiences alongside friends and family whenever she could. She remained proud of her Cuban heritage and shared her love for her language and culture with family and friends alike.
She met Israel while he was a medical student at the University of Havana after he dialed the wrong phone number but found the right person. They were married in 1957 in Havana, Cuba and emigrated to Miami, FL in 1960 where their son was born. Together, they worked to create as many opportunities as they could for their children and grandchildren in the United States. Aida found extraordinary fulfillment through being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was endlessly proud of each of them.
Aida, Israel, and their son briefly lived in Tallahassee, FL for two years before moving to Palm Beach County, FL in 1965 where their daughter was born and where they raised their two children. She remained in Palm Beach County until 2001 when she moved to Miami, FL.
The center of Aida’s life was her faith and she was steadfast in her devotion to God. She was a devout Catholic and frequently turned towards the guidance of Our Lady of Lourdes, Padre Pio, Saint Anthony, and Saint Theresa. She turned to God in moments of joy and difficulty and always encouraged her children and grandchildren to do the same. She was a parishioner of Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Miami, FL. Aida frequently volunteered her time, attention, and generosity to the church throughout her life.
Aida was loved by family and friends, many of whom consider her family. She was known for her elegance, generosity, and sense of humor. She was an active member of various communities over the years that have been a source of strength and friendship, including La Liga Contra el Cancer, Grupo Vida cancer support group, the Cenacle Retreat Center in Lantana, FL, and the Atlantis Women’s Guild in Atlantis, FL.
Aida will be remembered with a funeral mass in her honor held at Saint Catherine of Siena on Friday, July 28th, 2023 at 2 p.m. The address is 9200 SW 107th Avenue Miami, FL 33176.
An internment service will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetary on Saturday, July 29th, 2023 at 10 a.m. The address is 11411 NW 25th Street Doral, FL 33172.
Aida will be remembered as one of a kind. May she rest in peace.
