AGUSTIN EZEQUIEL GARCIA's Obituary
Agustin Ezequiel Garcia, of la Habana, Cuba, passed away on Christmas Day, December 25, 2022. Agustin was born in la Sagua, Cuba on April 10, 1941, on the Thursday before Easter Sunday and graduated with a degree in accounting.
He is survived and dearly missed by his wife of 49 years, Marta Raquel Tedeschini Garcia, daughter, Patricia Garcia, daughter and son in law, Debora and Ernest Beltz, daughter, Sara Garcia, grandson, Ethan Perez, and granddaughters Emersyn, Lucia, and Gabriella Beltz. He is also survived by his twin brother, Manuel (Manolo) Ezequiel Garcia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elia Aguirre Garcia and Guillermo Agustin Garcia, and his aunt, who was like a second mother to him, Carmita Garcia.
Agustin grew up in la Habana, Cuba. He and his twin brother, Manolo, lost their mother at the young age of 7 years old and were raised by their aunt, Carmita. Agustin studied accounting in Cuba but strived to seek liberation from communism. To do so, he worked in the sugar cane fields in Cuba for two years and was finally granted the liberation he sought out, relocating to Madrid, Spain on October 4, 1970, leaving behind his family. Alone in Madrid, he sought out a way to travel to Cordoba, Argentina to meet his pen pal, Marta, whose friendship had grown into romance.
According to God’s will, Agustin traveled to Cordoba on January 6, 1972. This is the first time he and Marta were able to meet in person after having written to each other for many years. He became a part of her family and church in Argentina and Agustin felt as if he had found a new family like his own family that he loved and missed in Cuba. Marta and Agustin were married on July 14, 1973, in Cordoba, Argentina.
God’s plan for Agustin’s life did not stop in Argentina. Agustin traveled to Toronto, Canada on January 6, 1974, after only six short months of marriage. Marta later joined him in July of that year, and from that point on, they were inseparable. He was again in a new country, but this time he was not alone and never was again.
Agustin felt that his Savior, Jesus Christ had placed a crown on his head and his first gem was Marta. God added three more gems to his crown when they had their daughters, Patricia Ruth, on August 25, 1976, Debora Lynn, on June 20, 1979, and Sara Lee, on May 22, 1981.
In September 1983, Agustin made his final quest for a better life by relocating his family to Miami, Florida. Agustin believed that the United States could offer his family opportunity. Before retirement, Agustin was employed for nearly 25 years as an accountant at the Okeelanta Corporation, the sugar mill that produces Florida Crystals. He also began his own business from home, starting as a tax preparer and later expanding into notarizing documentation, and even ordaining weddings. Agustin is remembered as a hard worker who constantly strived to provide for his family. He wanted to make sure his daughters were able to study and graduate from the university with a secure future for themselves. He was so proud of his daughter’s accomplishments in becoming professionals in their careers.
Once he retired, he and Marta enjoyed traveling, especially to Asia. Hong Kong became one of their favorite travel destinations. In April 2016, Agustin suffered a stroke that nearly took his life. After nearly eight months in the hospital and rehabilitation, he made a remarkable recovery. Although he was no longer able to make the journey overseas, he was able to make short trips to Austin, TX to visit his granddaughters. In his final years, he and Marta rekindled their love for one another and were inseparable. They enjoyed frequent shopping trips to Costco and eating at Chick-fil-A and The Habit Burger Grill.
Agustin became ill with the flu in June 2022, causing a mild heart attack. He again recovered remarkably but after being home for a little over a week, he found himself back in the hospital with another mild heart attack a few days after a car accident in front of their home. This began a vicious cycle of hospitalizations followed by rehabilitation facilities. His final hospitalization was on December 6, 2022, when he was admitted to the hospital with severe dehydration. After many complications, he eventually passed away at Florida Kendall Hospital on Christmas evening. Marta never left his side as he began his hospitalizations this year, constantly praying over him and staying with him day and night.
Agustin will forever be remembered as a follower of Jesus Christ, a fighter who did whatever he had to do to improve his circumstances, a hard worker in all he did, a provider to his family, and an extremely loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11-13
