ADARSH MAHENDRA KUMAR's Obituary
Adarsh M. Kumar, Ph.D., died unexpectedly on April 11, 2016. She is survived by a loving husband Dr. Mahendra Kumar, three children Kalpana (Jerry), Chitra (Paul) and Sameet (Christina). She so loved her grand-children Nisha, Matthew, Nick, Hannah, Miguel Anand and Javier Amrit, and her great-granddaughter Avani. Much of her extensive family is still in India.
Adarsh was born 1935 in Dandot which was then a part of India. She was a survivor of the violent partition that divided the subcontinent and relocated millions in 1947. She will always be remembered as a determined but gentle & loving soul who rose to life’s challenges with compassion, wisdom and introspection. She overcame the tremendous challenges of her childhood to become a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Miami. She was passionate about bringing her family together through her memorable food, Indian philosophy and spiritual music. As a couple, the Kumars worked together for many years and travelled throughout the world. She was inspired by the connections between people of all walks of life. She helped make the world a better place and brought joy to those around her.
