To John, and his beloved family—Marissa, Katlyn, Kristin, and Rachel,
I want to express my deepest condolences during this profoundly difficult time. John was not just a friend; to me, he became a like an older brother. He was a unique combination of humor, intelligence, and strength that is incredibly rare. His capacity to shock a room with his words and his larger-than-life personality created an environment that was both entertaining and memorable. I was often anxious about what he would say next, yet I could hardly wait to hear it.
John’s raw honesty and unapologetic nature provided insights that many did not have the courage to voice, wrapped in sarcasm that somehow always managed to resonate. His wit left jaws hanging and thoughts racing, and I cherished every conversation we shared. We laughed often.
Professionally, John was a titan. His academic credentials—from Syracuse University to Pepperdine Law, and Wharton—spoke volumes about his dedication and intellect. His journey through Bear Stearns, the Chicago Mercantile, and later in life, RE asset management showcased his talent and commitment to his work. Though he could be formidable in business, there was an altruistic side to him—a genuine kindness towards those in need.
While he loved to bemoan various aspects of life, he was equally proud of his family. His conversations often included playful complaints, quickly followed by heartfelt stories of your successes and achievements. Marissa, you were his anchor—the partner he relied on for balance, even as he sought to ruffle feathers with his playful charm. His love for Katlyn, Kristin, and Rachel was unwavering, and he took immense pride in sharing your accomplishments with me.
Our daily exchanges were a welcomed and very enjoyable part of my life; I came to depend on them for both laughter and camaraderie. Losing that part of my routine feels very heavy, and I know I will miss him deeply.
To you all—his family—I want to reassure you that my friendship with John extends to you. Should you ever find yourselves needing support, I am here for you without hesitation. John’s legacy will continue through the memories we all share, and I believe he is now at peace, reunited with cherished friends like Norman.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Tommy
