To his family near and far: My deepest thoughts have been about your dear Raul since hearing of his untimely demise. He was a credit to you and he will be missed for so many wonderful characteristics. He knew how to reach people, heal their pain, make them laugh, give good advice, show them how to love and live. I too shall miss this huge heart of a man. We were very close at the beginning of our volunteering journey and later, at the end of our careers, which had taken us to different continents for nearly 40 years. I thank God that he found me again for the last 4 years of his life. We talked for hours, on the same old wave lengths, with total understanding, feelings were rekindled and now the circle is finally formed. Thank you for the music Raul.
The loss for all of his family must be really hard to bear especially, Ingrid, Michael, Margot and dear Ruben whom I remember well from New York. We are all better people for knowing him - as are so many others whose lives he touched.
(Photos from Peace Corps years at Cobbla Camp, in Jamaica, and Aguadilla in Puerto Rico late 60s early 70s). Life happened; then we met again in Berlin in 2011 almost carrying on as usual, way back in the day. We made plans but they were not to be.
At last he suffers no more pain as he shouts out "Peace and Love" from wherever he is - wearing a ring of light instead of a hat.
Farewell dear heart,
With best wishes to your family and friends,
From Romey Scott-Woods (of Wales but living in Switzerland)
