SYBIL MAE LaGOY

November 10, 1937 - February 18, 2022

Sybil Mae LaGoy, 84, of North Miami, FL, passed away on February 18, 2022, surrounded by her family. Her babies gave her many nicknames: Meemaw, Grammie, Grams and Gigi. Sybil was born on November 10, 1937, to Horace and Julia McNeely in Atlanta, GA. She was the youngest of five siblings. Sybil was part of the first graduating class of North Miami Senior High School in 1955. After graduating from high school, she married her high school sweetheart and in 1957 gave birth to her only son, Albert Gomez, Jr. Sybil, started out as a bookkeeper in the cafeteria at Fulford Elementary School, moving on to a switch board operator at Southeastern Medical Center and concluded her working years as receptionist/switchboard operator at Wicker Smith Law Firm in Miami. Sybil always decorated her desk for every occasion and made sure her co-workers enjoyed their daily stops at her desk to satisfy their sweet tooth. She retired in 2014 allowing her to spend more time with her family including many trips to see her sister in Port St. Lucie. Sybil was a foodie, from dining out to family gatherings she could not resist all the yummy options. In her younger years she also enjoyed cooking for her family. Some of her favorites were yellow rice & chicken, pot roast, chicken pot pie and homemade rice krispie treats. All recipes that have been passed on to her grandchildren/great-grandchildren. Sybil was a diehard Miami Dolphins fan from collecting memorabilia to her attire. She rarely missed a game and planned her schedule around kick off. She was obsessed with light houses and visited several of her favorites. Sybil will always be remembered for her couponing, rebating, Avon, Hallmark addiction and endless love for making people happy. Sybil loved every one of her grandchildren/great-grandchildren endlessly. Family came first and was above all else to Sybil, a value she instilled in all those around her. The hole left by her absence will be impossible to fill. Sybil is survived by her son, Albert Gomez, Jr.; her sister, Betty Peterson; her grandchildren, Jeniffer Landry Perez, Albert Gomez, III, Ashley Reyes, Alison Alvarez, Christin, and Tyler Gordon. As well as her nine great-grandchildren Anthony, Alyssa, Cody, Ayden, Adyson, Connor, Anakin, Casey and Isla. Services will be held Friday February 25th, 2022, at Van Orsdel Funeral Home, 4600 SW 8th Street, Coral Gables, FL 33134. The family will welcome visitors from 12 noon to 3 pm with services following in the chapel at 3pm, the service will conclude at 4 pm. Please refrain from wearing dark colors as Sybil was a light we want to continue shining.
