Melanie Martin Kennedy, 58, of Miami Springs, Florida, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 7, 2020. Melanie was born in Miami, Florida on February 17, 1962, to Richard and Janet Martin. She was raised in Miami Springs and attended Miami Springs Senior High School, graduating in 1980. She attended the University of Florida, graduating in 1984. She married her husband Jeffrey in September 1986. They made their home in Miami Springs. Melanie was the 1980 class valedictorian for Miami Springs Senior High School. She was also a member of the National Honor Society. At the University of Florida she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems graduating cum laude. Following college she returned to Miami Springs and took a position with the Dade County School System as a computer programmer analyst. She left this position in 1994, electing to stay home and raise their son Zachary. Melanie’s father was with Pan American World Airways and as a child the family traveled the world and also did many camping trips through the United States. She and Jeffrey continued the love of travel by starting their marriage with a honeymoon to New Zealand. They traveled to all the 50 U.S. States and nine Canadian Provinces. She loved to visit the National Parks and traveling in the family motorhome. She also loved the Disney Parks and made regular trips to Disney World and Disneyland. Melanie was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved her Florida Gators and was a lifelong Gator sports fan. She loved to sew, making quilts and clothing, and was active with the “Sewing Ladies” at Crossbridge Church in Miami Springs. This group made small stuffed animals for patients at area children’s hospitals. She was a member of Christ Journey Church, Coral Gables, Florida. Melanie is survived by her loving husband Jeffrey, her son Zachary and his fiancée Alondra, her father Richard, her sister Laura and her husband Alan, many brother and sister-in-law’s, nieces, nephews, and cousins. A private memorial service will be held. Melanie will be interned in the Flagler Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America (www.lupus.org), American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org), or the charity of one’s choice.
