Juan I. Duarte
December 5, 1929 - March 14, 2022
They say it’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years… But what if your lucky enough to have both? That was my Abuelo. 92 years on this earth. A guajiro from Cuba that immigrated to this country with nothing and paved the way for generations to come. He was a simple man. He embodied the morals of hard-work, family, and faith. He was strong. Determined. Always knew what he wanted and made it happen. A go-getter. He was rough around the edges, but his heart was pure and his intentions were always with love. Recently he was able to meet his last born great-grandchild, my Camila. “El numero 18” - that was her number. He had all the great-grandchildren counted, they were his pride and joy. That memory will forever be etched in my heart. 5 kids, 15 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. What a legacy to leave behind. I love you Abuelo. I’ll miss your spontaneous FaceTime calls, your witty comments, your tough love, and all your stories. Until we meet again… Que viva la pepa! 💙 -Janet Capote- For all your grandchildren and great-grandchildren If you would prefer to make a charitable donation to a cause that Juan cared about, you can direct donations in his name to: Catholic Relief Services Cuba https://support.crs.org/donate/cuba-crisis?ms=agisup2121Cbe00Ctp00&_ga=2.104673408.1850016460.1647464195-700196289.1647464195
